Freak the Mighty

I feel that Max and Kevin have this amazing relationship. It's really beautiful how they sort of just, came together as one. It's almost like they're unstoppable. Like they became so precious they can't even be touched by those who aren't part of thier adventures. It's kind of like, destiny has brought them together again. I was wondering about how everything would have turned out if Max had never seen Freak at the daycare. Or if Freak wasn't really, you know, Freak. What if he was just some ordinary kid with no disease.  But the thing is, he's not. He's so special. He makes Max feel even more special.
Freak makes Max feel so important. Whenever Max feels that he's expected to turn out like his killer father, Freak is there. By his side. Whenever Max feels horible about his image, Freak is there. Freak symbolizes knowledge. Knowledge of the world, knowledge of emotions, knowledge of care. This knowledge gyuides Max in a way. He feels like someone when he's around Freak. And that matters. It matters because it's a nice feeling to know that you matter. It's a feeling you can't explain. Almost like what it feels like on your birthday. When you just know that no matter what, there's love. They're are people there, waiting to give you the best birthday ever. That for at least once, on that one day of the year, that people will find it obligatory to be nice to you. To show that they care. That's what it feels like to know that you matter.
When Freak and Max go on their dragon slaying adventures, they can just let go. They can just lose themselves in the wonder and magic of their quest. Their friendship is so magical. They way size doesn't matter. In fact, size has no say in their friendship. That's what makes a friendship strong. Where you can just let loose of the imperfections of the people you love. That you no longer care that they have a wart on their forehead or that they have a unibrow. These are such minor things. They're like little specks of dust you never notice until you look really closely. And even then, they don't have to matter if you don't want them to. Everybody has a choice.
I always smile when thinking of Freak and Max's friendship. It's beautiful, magical, and just plain happy. What more can you ask of  rom a friend?

  1. I think you really did a great job in describing Freak and Max's relationship. You explained a lot more than the obvious. Most writers would just say how Freak "completes" Max. I like how you explained what kind of a role Max and Freak play in each others lives.
Freak is not a real person in our lives, but I think you well described how Freak is actually almost a "life lesson" in our every day lives.

    great work <3
